Sea Life
Found objects collected from New York City’s harbor and coastal areas. After sorting the hoards of trash, the theme of symbols in early language and math is presented as a series of vignettes. The elements of earth, fire and water as well as communication, transportation, shelter, geometry, computer programming and time converge as sculptural sketches or modern cuneiform telling the story of humanity’s intellectual and commercial growth over the millennia. No longer carved in stone, these plastic objects have become the cultural remains of our modern civilization.
